I. Editorial: "love in truth"

This is the title of the third encyclical that Pope Benedict XVI address to the society and the world today, Christians and non Christians. It first recalls the social encyclicals of Paul VI and John Paul II. He speaks of respect for the human person, its growth in freedom and world hunger. He reminded the government the importance of new economic and social foundations.

In market relations, it is also the principle of free and logic of the gift as an expression of brotherhood. We must work not only to create areas or ethical lines in the economy and finance, but for the whole economy and finance is ethical. The crisis forces us to reconsider our journey, to give us new rules and to discover new forms of engagement. The comprehensive development of man as a vocation that demands respect for its truth. The
problem of food insecurity must be tackled in the long term. Unemployment leads to new aspects of today's economic nonsense. The sidelining of work for a long period, as prolonged dependency vis-à-vis the public or private assistance are undermining the freedom and creativity of the person and his social behavior and family, with strong suffering from a psychological and spiritual. The use of the natural environment represents for us a responsibility to the poor, future generations and humanity as whole. Development cooperation should not only consider the economic dimension. It must be a great opportunity to meet cultural and human.

II. The ENCYCLICAL ON DEVELOPMENT "Caritas in Veritate"

THE PAPAL POPE BENEDICT XVI on integral human development in charity and in truth (extracts).

Editor's note: A revolutionary response ...

Given the global economic crisis, the Church, which never despairs of man, put in the balance all the advantage gained of her social doctrine since Leo XIII: "If the world had listened more attentively Leo XIII and his successors, we could avoid the Bolshevik Revolution, the 1929 crisis, and why not one today! ... "(JY Naudet) for whom" communism has lost one hundred years to the social question. " Pope, aided by economists and experts in ethics and finance, has worked since 2007, stimulated by the crisis 2008.Ce document has received a warm welcome: The Italian head of state, President Giorgio Napolitano former representative of the Italian Communist Party, claims to have read the encyclical "with great interest . Cardinal Vingt-Trois spoke of "a great message of hope." It is a breathtaking panorama and full breath to make sense of the ferment of the global economy. The French Minister of Labour considers it came "at the right time, as lightning tearing the dark clouds."

Primate of truth

2. Charity is at the heart of the Social Doctrine of the Church (...). Hence, arises the need to combine love with the truth not only in the direction indicated by St. Paul, of "truth in caritate" (Eph 4, 15) but also, in that, opposite and complementary to the "Caritas in veritate" (...)
8. By publishing in 1967 the encyclical Populorum Progressio , my venerable predecessor Paul VI illuminated the great theme of development of the peoples of the splendor of truth and the soft light of Christ's love. He said that the announcement of Christ is the first and main factor of development (...). The Church has no technical solutions to offer and is not intended "not to interfere in state politics." However, it has a mission of truth to accomplish at all times and under all circumstances, for a company to measure the man, his dignity and his vocation (...).
Role prophetic Popes Paul VI and
16. (...) If the [development] only concerned the technical aspects of the life of man, not the direction of his march into history with his other brothers or definition of the purpose of such path, the Church would have no way to tell. (...). As Leo XIII in Rerum Novarum, Pope Paul VI was conscious of a duty to fulfill its own burden.
18. (...) The Gospel is a fundamental element of development, because in Christ, "the revelation the mystery of the Father and His love, fully reveals man to himself. " The Church offers the world "it has its own: a global vision of man and humanity" (...).
The market for poor people in globalization: a drama!
21. (...) However, we must recognize that this same economic development has been and continues to be burdened by imbalances and dramatic problems, made even more highlighted by the current crisis (...) . The technical forces, global exchanges, deleterious effects on the real economy to a financial activity and misused, which is more speculative, large-scale migration, usually provoked and then handled inappropriately, the unregulated exploitation of land resources, leading us TODAY 'hui to reflect upon the measures necessary (...).
25. (...) The global market has stimulated above all, from rich countries, looking for places to outsource production to low cost in order to reduce the prices of many goods, from increase the purchasing power and thus accelerate the rate of growth based on increased consumption of the domestic market (...). I would like to remind everyone, especially governments pledged to give a new profile to economic and social foundations of the world, that man, the person in its integrity, is the first capital to safeguard and promote (...) .
27. (...) In many poor countries, extreme insecurity vital, which is the result of nutritional deficiencies, remains and is likely to worsen: hunger mowing again as so many victims of Lazarus whom he does is not allowed to sit as Paul VI wished , the rich man's table. Feeding the hungry (cf. Mt 25, 35, 37, 42) is an ethical imperative for the Church Universal (...). Eliminate hunger in the world has become, moreover, in the era of globalization, a requirement to continue to safeguard peace and stability in the world (...).
Respect for life and religious freedom
28. One of the most striking aspects of contemporary development is the important theme of respect for life (...). Not only does poverty cause yet in many areas a high rate of mortality infant, but some parts of the world still practice population control by governmental bodies that often promote contraception and abortion are going to impose. In the economically more developed, contrary to the laws of life are now widespread and have influenced the customs and practices, helping to disseminate anti-birth mentality that we often try to convey to other states like it is a cultural progress. Some NGOs are actively working to spread of abortion, and sometimes promote in poor countries adopting the practice of sterilization, including women's knowledge (...).
29. (...) There is still denial of the right to religious freedom (...). It often kills in the holy name of God. Violence hampering the real development and impede the march of peoples towards greater well-being socio-economic and spiritual (...). It should be added that, in addition to religious fanaticism, which in some circles, prevents the right to religious freedom, the deliberate promotion of religious indifference or practical atheism from many countries obstructs the development needs of the people, depriving them of access to spiritual and human resources. God is the guarantor of true human development (...).
The spirit of giving: a revolutionary view on globalization
35. (...). The poor are not regarded as a "burden" but rather as a resource, even from a strictly economic point of view. Must be regarded as erroneous to some who think that the market economy has a structural need for a quota of poverty and underdevelopment in order to work best (...).
39. (...) When the logic of the market and that of the State come together to perpetuate the monopoly of their respective areas of influence in the relations of solidarity between citizens is diminishing over time (.. .). A demographic
open to life: how rich!
43. (...) "Solidarity is a universal fact, and a benefit for us, is also a duty" (...). It has often been noted between claiming a right to excess or even transgression and vice, in affluent societies, and lack of food, drinking water, primary education or basic health care in some underdeveloped regions and in the peripheries of large cities (...). The exasperation of rights leads to a neglect of duty (...).
44. (...) Consider population growth as the primary cause of underdevelopment is incorrect, even from an economic standpoint: just think of a hand, the significant decrease in infant mortality and the rise in average life expectancy found in economically developed countries, and on the other hand, the signs of crisis observable in societies where there has been an alarming decline in the birthrate (...). The Church, which has at heart the true development of man, he recommends following his action in any authentic human reality. This dimension must be recognized, especially in regard to sexuality: it can not be reduced to a pure fact hedonistic and playful, as well as sex education can not be reduced to technical instruction, the sole purpose defend the interest of any contamination or "Risk" reproductive (...). In effect, prohibits both the responsibility to consider sexuality as a mere source of pleasure, than to regulate it through planning policies mandatory birth (...).

Opening morally responsible life in a rich social and economic development. Great nations have come out of poverty thanks to the large number of their inhabitants and their potential. By contrast, nations, a prosperous time, now a familiar phase of uncertainty and, in some cases, decline because of falling birth rates which is a critical issue for companies of advanced welfare (...). In this context, States are required to implement policies that promote the centrality and integrity of the family based on marriage between a man and a woman, first and vital cell of society (...) .

The ecology of man and the problems

48. The theme of development is also now strongly linked to the duties arising from the report of man with the natural environment. It was given to all by God and his use of it we have a responsibility towards the poor, future generations and humanity as a whole (...).
49. (...) They [poor people] do not have the economic resources to access existing non renewable energy sources or to finance research into new sources imprisonment. The hoarding of natural resources which, in many cases, are precisely in poor countries, gives rise to exploitation and frequent conflicts between nations or inside of them (...).
50. (...). There's room for everyone on earth: the entire human family must find the resources needed to live successfully with nature itself, God's gift to his children and his work effort and creativity (...).
51. (...). The Church has a responsibility to create and must assert this publicly too. In doing so, it must preserve not only the land, water and air as gifts of creation belongs to all, it must above all protect the rights of its own destruction. A kind of human ecology, correctly understood, is necessary (...). If the right to life and natural death is not observed if the conception, gestation and birth of man is man made, if human embryos are sacrificed for research, awareness of society ends up losing the concept of human ecology, and with it, that of environmental ecology (...).

The essential contribution of religions

56 .(...) The social doctrine of the Church is born to claim that "citizenship" of religion Christian. The denial of the right to publicly profess his religion and to work towards the truths of faith also inspire public life has negative consequences on the real development (...).
61. (...). An example of the importance of this problem is offered by the phenomenon of international tourism can be a major factor of economic development and cultural growth, but can also be transformed into opportunity. Financiers must rediscover the true ethical basis of their activity so as not to abuse these sophisticated instruments that can be used to mislead investors (...).

disturbing problems of bioethics

74. A critical area today (...) is the field of bioethics, which is played dramatically the very possibility of an integral human development. This is a particularly delicate and decisive, which emerges with dramatic force the fundamental question of whether the man was the product itself or if it depends on God (...). It is no coincidence that the closure to transcendence faces difficulty to understand how the void could well be, and how chance is born of intelligence. Faced with these dramatic problems, reason and faith mutually help each other (...).
75. (...). In vitro fertilization, embryo research, the possibility of cloning human hybrids appear and are promoted in the contemporary culture of disenchantment, which believes it every mystery, because we are now able to root life (...). One can not underestimate the alarming scenarios for the future of man or the powerful new tools available to the "culture death. As tragic and deep wound of abortion, could be added in the future, and it is already in nuce surreptitiously (the seeds), a systematic eugenic births. On the other hand, we see a mens euthanasica (mentality in favor of euthanasia) to clear a path, an event just as abuse of a desire to dominate life, which, under certain conditions, is no longer considered worth living (...). What is astonishing is the ability to arbitrarily select which, today, is proposed as worthy of respect (...).
76. (...). Far from God, man is restless and fragile. The psychological and social alienation, with all the neuroses that characterize affluent societies, is also due to spiritual causes. (...). New forms of slavery to drugs and despair in which many people fall an explanation not only sociological and psychological, but mainly spiritual. (...). There is no holistic development and the universal common good without spiritual and moral development of individuals, considered in the integrity of their souls and their bodies (...).
78. Without God, man does not know where to go and can not even understand who he is. Given the enormous problems of developing nations who would push us almost to despair and defeatism, the word of the Lord Jesus Christ comes to our aid making us aware of the fact that: "Without me ye can do nothing" (Jn 15 , 5) (...). The greatest force at the service of development, so it is a Christian humanism (...). Humanism excludes God is an inhuman humanism (...).
79. Development needs Christians who have their hands outstretched to God in a gesture of prayer, knowing that the rich love of truth, Caritas in Veritate, which carries the authentic development, is not produced by us, but we are given (...). Christians long for the entire human family to call God "Our Father! "(...).

o The election of the Patriarch Kyrill in Moscow: new impetus for ecumenism. The election of new Patriarch of Moscow opens new prospects for dialogue between Catholics and Orthodox. Since his election, Pope Benedict XVI has expressed on several occasions, the desire to further strengthen the dialogue with Orthodox. Metropolitan Kyrill, who was elected Patriarch of Moscow has been in recent times, a privileged interlocutor with the Holy See. His election was greeted with enthusiasm by the pope and the international press.
The first speech of the new patriarch, to an audience well fed in the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour has shown his desire to move towards unity, without denying the differences in doctrine with the Catholic Church, he indicated the need a unit to deal with secularization. o The challenges of Benedict XVI. The many media attacks against the pope does not seem to disrupt or stop the program of his pontificate. The "peaceful struggle" Benedict XVI continued, explaining the foundations of the Catholic faith ("Resurrection is not a theory but a historical reality ... it is neither a myth nor a dream, it is or a vision or a dream, not a fable, but a unique and definitive ") and he fights materialism and nihilism that have weakened the West, making him lose his identity markers. o Open letter to the pope a 16 year old
Holy Father, I'm Charles, I am a student of 16 years. I watch with dismay the media lynching to which you object. I wanted, Holy Father, thank you for your courage. Thank you for telling us again that we are often free and responsible beings: some would be so happy by giving us bread, games, pills and condoms, to make us a people debased and sensual, slave to his instincts and devoid the will to rise. Easy to dominate a people, living in a hollow world, bland and sanitized ...
Thanks for telling me that if the purity is a difficult virtue to practice, it is still possible to live, and it helps us discover what true love. A journalist stated, a few days ago, that chastity is a virtue not to practice, and must therefore renounce the show as a role model. When will the turn of honesty, courtesy, service spirit, sincerity, obedience?
In my school we are taught to use a condom and then we are told that everything is allowed, except for rape. We are not girl talk more, but "partner". Love is more than a set of techniques and processes. It is not a gift, but the appropriation of another. I continue to believe that the greatest gift I can do to the woman who will share my life is the fact that I reserved for her. I know, however, we will laugh at me, they treat me every name, we will say that I am abnormal and frustrated ... Receive, Most Holy Father, the expression of my filial affection. Charles

o testimony at the hospital
As a volunteer weekly in hospital to offer Sunday Mass and bring Communion, I had a very good meeting recently. A woman started talking to me the first time I saw her, saying: "You're a Catholic, I just asked for euthanasia, what do you think? You condemn me is not it? I am a believer but I can not go, I suffer too! . Ask for euthanasia, it is always a cry for help! I told this woman that obviously I do not condemn it. She had been hospitalized 63 times in 20 years: she was completely alone, no family! She thought she had no longer any reason to live and she suffered so much! I would have then given a mission: to pray. On my second visit, she no longer spoke of euthanasia ... She could even go home. I fought for it to go into palliative care, because she no longer wanted to go to the hospital, she wanted the love, attention. I insisted and obtained successful. She was very happy, very peaceful. She felt that he loved her. And after five days, she died, serene, happy, at peace with itself and others. God came for her when she was really ready to go. His funeral was very moving, we were five. The few people around him who had visited palliative care told me they had never seen so happy for the years they knew .... Pierre Delaunay

An American pastor who converted to Catholicism says: "We have pockets full of holes, the battered heart, but the Lord continues ... We shouted 'I love you'. Our wounds, rather than pus may ooze and mercy we will carry each other. With Jesus, our stories are not finished. "

Satan recipe

Friday June 19 to Sunday, June 21 A Festival of Satanic anti-Christian hatred with encouragement physical violence took place in Clisson (France): the tract its name proudly: "Hellefest" (Feast of Hell)! With the support of the Council of Pays de Loire Atlantique, Kronembourg and Cola-Cola.

Indeed, "You do not escape Satan's hammer" it talks about "witches who drink semen demons." Openly satanic groups, some of which will call up to the murder of Christians. With the result, still more graves desecrated cemeteries cross returned, and tagged with Nazi symbols on graves ... Let us

o Pakistan: Barbarism strikes again

August 2, 2009. Eight Christians including four women and a child burned to death by followers of the "religion of love" and four churches burned and destroyed 50 houses in a village in western Pakistan (source: Asia News) for allegedly desecrated a Koran. But the Minister of Minorities Shahbaz Bhatti said that these accusations were "baseless." Because there was desecration or not, he would never dream of followers of a religion of love, peace and tolerance of women and children burned alive for such a trifle? Note that the is not a trifle under Pakistani law which condemns to death anyone who desecrates the Korampf Mein. Still more peace, love and tolerance ™, highly Islamic values if any .... Desecrating the Koran is punishable by death in Pakistan, where Islam is the dominant religion. Christians, who represent less than 3% of the population, say the anti-blasphemy laws are used to retaliate on their community.

o Persecution of Christians in Muslim countries

No country is immune to this, nor even the most "liberal" like Tunisia where Muslim women have nevertheless prohibited from marrying non-Muslim. In Saudi Arabia, there is a religious police, the Muttawa, who watches over the correct behavior (according to Islamic law) of the population, and between strength in the homes of Filipino and Indian immigrants, gathered to pray the rosary or read the bible, an activity considered the territory "sanctity of Islam" as a very serious offense, punishable by imprisonment, confiscation of property and immediate repatriation. In France, the number of frozen embryos was estimated at 176,523 in 2007. We know that medically assisted reproduction and IVF produce many embryos that are frozen at -196 ° C. - Of the 119,000 attempts made by AMP 2006, 14 300 were frozen embryo transfers (FET). 13 802 TEC were intraconjugal and gave birth to 1988 children 262 were derived from donated sperm and resulted in the birth of 40 children, 189 were the result of egg donation and 27 children were born alive. Finally, 57 TEC has been made in the context of a host embryo, giving birth to 10 children. What is less known is the suffering of parents at the prospect of delivering these children to destruction. This practice is clearly condemned by the Church, especially in investigating Dignitas Personae.

Me, I like Bishop Leonard! Cross and mitred, in pajamas or in swimming trunks, he seems always comfortable, always unified. It's a real character which even opponents like the contrarian opinions (that give grist to the grumpy all edges). He quietly rowing against the current, always takes off against the wind (as kites) and is constantly feet from nose the spirit world.

In addition to being an intellectual high-flying (so read his "Metaphysics of Being"), there is in him a Don Camillo Walloon guindailleur a student and something of a guillotine and expels priest (1793 , 1905). I can see the latest bless Carmelites of Compiegne before slipping his neck, smiling under the leveling blade.

If its Catholicism is strict, it is not fussy: his Roman shield the flawless flawless Roman willingly willingly dons the "bia bouquet, its lucidity and its devastating wind is ruthless humor. His entourage may suffer from its blunders, his ego, his otherness ... But I'm sure he does not express any more than the elephant is not always aware of the damage it does by simply shaking the leg. So, Bishop Leonard, cardinal and archbishop? I'm for. Of course, that we change many of its predecessor (if you know what I mean), but we will have fun a lot and perhaps convince us that he was made for this.
Pierre-Rene Melo (La Libre Belgique, 22-6-09)

Editor's note: Since he was bishop of Namur in 1991, Bishop Leonard has ordered 90 young priests and hosted about 10 young new pastoral communities.

The Church and AIDS
No one would dare to minimize the seriousness of the AIDS epidemic or to criticize the efforts of medicine to stop it, but it is surprising to global advocacy in favor of condoms (see Vers l'Avenir, 19 March). One frieze by grotesque outside the condom, no salvation for man! Will it be made mandatory (as the belt ...) and send controllers alcoves? It would in any case, the pope makes frankly promotion. You already imagine the headlines of Paris Match: Benedict XVI finally converted to the hood! In reality, journalists who interview him know in advance the answer, not imagining that it could break with the traditional teaching of the Church, but they are seeking a new pretext for the pin, hold it responsible of the epidemic. A shame, because precisely, if the world had listened to the Church, there would be no epidemic: it does not prevent long ago? Whence, indeed, the disease unknown to our ancestors? While its origin remains obscure, there is no doubt that its spread lightning struck first in homosexuals and drug addicts, then in Many variants of debauched, that is to say, those who break the moral of the Church. Unfortunately it also reaches straight now. Furthermore, condoms encourages such behavior disastrous, with the pill, condemned by Pope Paul VI, he pushes the sexual promiscuity and thus the multiple partners and therefore risk. That
therefore ceases to attack the Church! In a society where Eros is king, it is easily shines on only one aspect of Christian morality. A reader of Namur (not published by Towards the Future)

"The woman-object" in La Libre Belgique
As a woman, I am humbled by this great picture of "woman-object" ("L'art au féminin, 3-8, p. 42). Your newspaper objectifies women and trivializes the taste for pornography. Are there any women in your executive committee capable of respecting the dignity of women? Elsewhere we have fun to show "The origins of our sexual animal! (11-8).
